The first round of applications for the Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program is now open. On November 30, 2020, Governor Newsom and the State Legislature announced the allocation of $500 million available to small businesses and nonprofits that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is administered by California's Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA), part of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz).
At its January 27 Council Meeting, the Montebello City Council voted unanimously to adopt an Urgency Ordinance which requires grocery and drug stores to provide premium pay for their employees performing work in the City of Montebello, and for 180 days from the date of adoption of the ordinance, effective immediately. The Ordinance will be brought back for a second reading at the February 10 Council Meeting.

At its January 13 Council meeting, the Montebello City council voted unanimously to adopt an Urgency Ordinance establishing a temporary limit on the charges imposed on local retail food establishments by third-party delivery services during the COVID-19 pandemic and for 90 days after the County/State Order prohibiting on-premises dining is lifted.

The California Chamber of Commerce and nearly 200 allied business organizations including the Montebello Chamber of Commerce representing all sectors of the economy and employing millions of California workers sent a letter this week to Governor Gavin Newsom and the Legislature calling for specific and immediate actions to curb the impact of the current pandemic-related economic crisis as well as address the underlying causes of an ongoing exodus of employers to other states.
On December 21st, Congress approved a new COVID-19 stimulus bill which includes another round of PPP forgivable loans (called PPP2). PPP2 loans are available to both previous recipients and first time borrowers, and also for community groups. A total of $325 billion is available through March 31, 2021, and the application portal opens on Monday, January 11, 2021.
As of November 30, 2020, the new Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) 21-page COVID-19 Emergency Standard is in effect across California, covering virtually every employer and workplace in the state.
